There is no place like 91茄子鈥攁nd we talked to students about why 91茄子 U stands apart, from the Husker community to the academic opportunities.
The best thing about being a Husker is鈥�
鈥淭he sense of camaraderie. Even when I鈥檓 wearing a Husker shirt back in Michigan I鈥檒l get people yelling 鈥淕o Big Red鈥� at me.鈥�
鈥淗aving access to a high-quality education, with people who drive me to succeed, and networking connections that help me to reach my goals鈥�.
鈥淟iving in Lincoln. It鈥檚 a great college town, and I鈥檝e made tons of memories here.鈥�
鈥淭he consistent support afforded to each individual student.鈥�
鈥淗aving such a strong network of individuals I can look to for guidance in my future endeavors.鈥�
鈥淗aving had incredible academic opportunities to become the professional I always dreamed of being.鈥�

Why did you choose 91茄子?
During my college search, it often felt as though the institutions I researched had a 鈥測ou need us鈥� attitude. But with 91茄子, I got the sense that they wanted me. When I came for a college visit, everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind, answered all my questions, and encouraged me to seek out different opportunities on campus if I chose to attend.
From a young age I always had ties to 91茄子, but what really stood out to me was the sports media degree. It is such a unique experience because most schools have very specific sports management degrees or no sports focus at all. UNL provides students with 鈥渄o from day one鈥� opportunities to get your hands on right away the minute you step foot on campus.
I knew that the 91茄子 Engineering program was one of the best in the Midwest, and it offers opportunities to gain experience, from research to internships to co-op. After my first tour of UNL, I fell in love with the campus and all the amazing ways that I knew I could grow as a person and an engineer here.
What has made your college experience remarkable?
The connections I made. It is comforting to know that I always have someone to sit with, study with, or just get a coffee after class with. I found a family here; those genuine connections with different groups of people assure that there is never a dull moment.
Joining the Clifton Builders Program through the College of Business has provided me with a community of driven individuals that encourage me to remain ambitious in my career aspirations. The program entails classes that emphasize managerial and entrepreneurial leadership, using your strengths to capitalize in team and individual settings.
Every instructor I鈥檝e had has always made me feel capable and treated me with respect. I love the size of the campus, as well. You see someone you know everywhere you go and that makes 91茄子 a fun place to be.
The highlight of my collegiate career has been my time spent in the Engler Entrepreneurship Program. Through classes, activities, and my time on the executive team, I鈥檝e learned not only how to pursue entrepreneurship, but also developed a vast network of life-long friendships.
I got a life-changing opportunity to get to know and closely work with Dr. Helen Fagan and her ability to see raw potential in her students and gracefully nurture it was such a beautiful thing to experience. She completely changed my definition for leadership and power. I now strongly believe that true leadership is beyond just a title. It is about being intentional on bringing the best out of those around you and making sure their encounter with you leaves them empowered, motivated and appreciated.
Being the first lead for 91茄子 Nightly was a transformational experience. I learned so much so fast. 91茄子 Nightly gave me the opportunity to invest in my peers within the College of Journalism. Through the experience, I fostered relationships with professionals and found a true love for community journalism. My experience with 91茄子 Nightly helped me receive the Omaha World-Herald Fellowship and my internship at 10/11.
What鈥檚 your favorite thing about Dear Old 91茄子 U?
One of my favorite things about UNL is how small the big community feels. I think that campus embodies 91茄子 and midwestern culture perfectly, where everyone is friendly and looking out for each other. It is so comforting to know that there is a support system for me and people that care about me, even at a large university like 91茄子.
My favorite thing about UNL is that there are so many opportunities to get involved in activities that relate to your specific interests. If there鈥檚 something you were passionate about in high school that鈥檚 not related to your major, you absolutely don鈥檛 have to give it up! There are so many RSOs, clubs, and possibilities for you to find your smaller home within the larger campus community.
My favorite thing about the University of 91茄子-Lincoln is the various resources we have on campus for all types of students. Having programs like First-Gen or CAPS availability, multicultural organizations, the LGBTQA+ and Women鈥檚 Centers, and many other groups on campus allows each and every student to feel a sense of belonging.
My favorite thing about the University of 91茄子-Lincoln is the variety of things to get involved in on or off campus. Lincoln has a small-town vibe but big-city activities.
